MMSF alumni part of federally funded dental project

Details:

The University of Manitoba recently received over $6 million for dental research, and $1.8 million went towards a project led by an MMSF alumnus.

The project, “Development and implementation of a postgraduate internship in community oral health and dental public health,” is being led by Dr. Robert Schroth. From 2010 to 2013, Dr. Schroth held the MMSF Shaun Lamoureux and Kerry Bittner Clinical Research Professorship in Population Health. He also received MMSF funding in 2002.

His co-investigators include Dr. Anil Menon, who received MMSF funding in 2024, and Dr. Prashen Chelikani, who sits on the MMSF board.

According to UM Today, the project is intended to “develop and implement a 12-month postgraduate clinical apprenticeship pilot program in community oral health and dental public health for dentists and dental hygienists. The program’s aim is to develop community-minded oral health-care providers who will develop additional knowledge and skills to address the oral health care needs of at-risk populations.”
